MG Windsor EV Pro first drive review: Bigger battery, 449km range, Level 2 ADAS & premium features—worth the upgrade over the standard Windsor?

MG has taken its bestselling electric vehicle, the Windsor, and made it even more appealing with the introduction of the MG Windsor EV Pro. With a bigger 52.9kWh battery, new features, and improved long-distance usability, is the Pro variant worth the extra premium over the standard model? We take a closer look.

Subtle But Smart Exterior Updates

Visually, the Windsor EV Pro keeps things simple. It’s available only in the top-spec Essence Pro trim and looks nearly identical to its standard sibling. You’ll still see the same LED lighting signature, sleek aerodynamic lines, and the illuminated MG logo. However, look closer and you’ll spot ADAS sensors, new 18-inch sportier alloy wheels, and a few fresh colour options like Blaze Red, Celadon Blue, and Aurora Silver.

A standout addition is the powered tailgate, a segment-first feature that reveals a massive 579-litre boot (slightly reduced due to a subwoofer). It’s a small but meaningful upgrade, perfect for everyday convenience.

Spacious and Plush Cabin

Inside, MG mixes things up with new Ivory-Black dual-tone interiors. This gives the already airy cabin a more premium feel. While the lighter colours may be prone to staining, they help keep the cabin cooler and enhance the feeling of space.

The feature-rich cabin retains its highlights — a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, and best-in-class rear seat comfort. Despite housing a larger battery, space and floor height remain unchanged, thanks to its born-electric platform. Rear seat recline and comfort make it an ideal choice for chauffeur-driven buyers.

More Range, More Freedom

The headline update is the new 52.9kWh battery pack, which gives the Windsor EV Pro a claimed range of 449km. In real-world testing through hilly terrains, the car comfortably returned 350–375km on a full charge, making it suitable for intercity travel. It now supports 60kW DC fast charging, compared to 45kW on the standard version, and includes V2L and V2V features, allowing external device charging or even helping other EVs.

Power figures remain unchanged at 136bhp and 200Nm, which is adequate for daily driving. The ride remains plush, though sharper bumps can filter in due to the large alloys.

Tech-Heavy but Not Without Flaws

The 15.6-inch touchscreen remains the central command unit, controlling everything from the climate control to ORVM adjustments, sunshade, and powered tailgate. While responsive, essential functions like mirror adjustments would be more convenient with physical controls.

The digital instrument cluster offers crisp visibility, though some users might find it tricky to toggle through different data screens.

The Windsor Pro also introduces Level 2 ADAS, including lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control, both of which work well. However, some might find it annoying that ADAS settings reset every time the car is restarted.

Verdict: A Smart Upgrade for a Justifiable Price

At an additional ₹1.5–2 lakh over the regular Windsor Essence, the EV Pro offers tangible benefits — especially longer range, faster charging, and ADAS capabilities. It competes directly with the Tata Nexon.ev and Mahindra XUV400 but holds its own as a more complete and differentiated product.

For those who seek practicality, comfort, and modern tech under ₹20 lakh, the MG Windsor EV Pro is arguably one of the most value-rich EVs currently available in India.
